Opening and Closing Films

OPENING FILM - LITTLE TROUBLE GIRLS

The 38th BFFB will officially start on Friday 4th April with the Italian premiere of the debut feature film by Slovenian director Urška Djukić, Little Trouble Girls (Kajti Je Deklica). The film, which is also in competition at the BFFB and won the FIPRESCI prize in the Perspectives section at the 75th Berlin Film Festival, tells the story of Lucija, a shy 16-year-old who joins a girls' choir and befriends the outgoing Ana-Marija. During a retreat in a monastery, Lucija's interest in a restorer tests their bond and leads her to explore her own identity and sexuality.

Little Trouble Girls, shot between Cividale del Friuli and Natisone, features an international cast and was made with the support of several European production companies. It will be distributed in Italy by Tucker Film. Urška Djukić, already winner of a César for Granny's Sexual Life, signs a film that sensitively deals with the transition to adulthood.

CLOSING FILM - MARIANENGRABEN (LA FOSSA DELLE MARIANNE)

The festival will close with the tragicomedy Marianengraben by Eileen Byrne, a road trip that accompanies the audience through mourning and the processing of grief towards new perspectives. The film, co-produced by Albolina (a production company from Bolzano) together with Samsa Film (Luxembourg) and Film AG (Austria) and financed by IDM Film Commission Südtirol, will be distributed in Italy by Trent Film from 24th April.
