Adapted from George Bizet's popular opera, Lubitsch's silent film tells the tragic story of Don José, a Spanish cavalryman. He falls under the spell of a member of the Sinti and Roma, Carmen, who treats him with both love and contempt.

As part of the BFFB Live Soundtrack, Carmen (1918) by Ernst Lubitsch will be set to music live
in CAPITOL 1 of FILMCLUB. Mirko Pedrotti, Damian Dalla Torre and Steffi Narr will accompany the film with saxophone, electric guitar, vibra- phone and electronics over a total length of 80 minutes. This event takes place in cooperation with the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige.

Ernst Lubitsch (born January 29, 1892, in Berlin – died November 30, 1947, in Los Angeles) was a German-born film director and actor who became a U.S. citizen. After early success in Germany, he moved to Hollywood in the 1920s. He became famous for his refined, elegant comedies, known as the "Lubitsch Touch." Shortly before his death, he received an honorary Oscar for his life's work.
